The introduction of a brand new executive lounge at Southampton airport could pave the way for an executive parking system.

The Breeze Priority Lounge offers business and leisure passengers the opportunity to enjoy a relaxed and luxury environment before their flight.

The lounge is available for three hours before flight time and includes refreshments, complimentary WiFi and mobile phone charging points. Pre-booking entry into the lounge cost £17.50.

The opening of the lounge has also lead to many people asking for a VIP Southampton airport parking option like other airports. Which would include extras such as a concierge service and dedicated parking with 24 hour security or underground parking. If the video below is anything to go by then the cars at Southampton airport could definitely do with VIP parking

Bristol Airport Introducing Drop-Off Parking Charge

Bristol Airport has announced it will be introducing a £1 charge for all pick up and drop offs at the airport.

Signs have been placed around the airport warning people of the impending fee a spokesperson for Bristol airport parking said:”Currently, a ten-minute free period is provided. However, spaces are limited which leads to severe congestion during busy periods.

“This can result in customers incurring additional charges as they look for a space or queue to exit the car park. To ease congestion and provide a more efficient service to customers, a new tariff will be introduced in the drop-off and pick-up zone.

“A charge of £1 will apply for stays of up to 20 minutes in length. The current ten-minute free period will be maintained at another location on site. This represents a decrease in cost for passengers staying between 10 and 20 minutes.”

Bristol however are not the first to introduce a drop-off charge, both Edinburgh airport parking and Liverpool announced recently that they will be implementing a charge. However anyone with a disabled sticker will still be able to park for 30 minutes free of charge.

The Future Of Airport Parking

Heathrow airport has this week started trialling ULTRA, a Personal Rapid Transport (PRT) pods.

The unnamed pods take passengers from parking facilities outside of the airport to Terminal 5 and are due to fully operational in July

The scheme is thought to have cost around £25million  and consists of 21 low energy, battery powered vehicles which are designed to carry 4 passengers and their luggage. They will at first only be available for  business parking customers but after a successful blanket trial at Seoul Incheon airport it is thought they may well come into full operation.

East Midlands Airport Offers Inclusive Parking

East Midlands airport have announced they will be offering Christmas holiday packages to New York that includes airport parking.Airline Jet2 is running the scheme which costs £599 and includes a return flight, taxes, in flight meals, three star hotel accommodation and official East Midlands airport parking.

Managing Director of the airport Brad Miller said:”This announcement by Jet2holidays is a significant step forward for East Midlands Airport

“We’re extremely proud to give our passengers the chance to experience all New York has to offer.”

A similar package is being made available for people in the North East however this package doesn’t seem to include Newcastle airport parking as standard .

Flight only deals are available for just £399 however surely it’s worth the extra just to have everything sorted out for you. Imagine just pulling up at East Midlands having your vehicle taken and you have nothing else to worry about until you return from your luxury budget weekend in the Big Apple.

Daily Mail Airport Parking Costs Soar

To continue the theme of airport parking costs through the Easter period, the daily Mail has also reported on TravelSupermarket’s research to people using short stay parks, rather than booking ahead and using the long stay options, stating that prices are to soar.

The research shows huge savings at Heathrow airport parking around a 83% saving if the research is accurate. Once again Leeds Bradford airport parking was mentioned with a £141 saving being presented from the example given. There is a clear message though and that is with more people taking advantage of low cost flights, something like airport parking is not research often enough. For example, it states that Blackpool airport still offer free parking, take this into account, it is very possible to pay more for the flights or travel further to benefit form this.

These are not our words, but the title of a very strongly word article we found on the different prices involved in airport parking across the UK, by TravelSuperMarket. The article claims you can save over 500% by booking early, although we think the figures should say around 50% savings. Within these list of locations s of course Leeds Bradford Airport Parking, the examples show that by booking through somewhere like travel supermarket, you cab save up to 67%.

The article called Avoid the Airport Parking rip offs This Easter is little more than a lot of figures representing what they to believe are the savings you would make by airport had you booked in advance, of course this would also apply to all Bank Holidays. Something else to consider, is that most airport parking websites offer discounts by booking early, although some would suggest it is more like a fine for leaving it to the machines at the end of the holiday.  The question is, there are only so many car park and even travel agents are just that, an agent for the airport car park and so the prices are not controlled by them, in fact they have to get their profit in as well.
